Changes, whether personal, within a team or within an organisation, can be challenging.  Using my expertise and diverse experience, I offer a framework that allows sensitive issues to be addressed.

About me

From North
to South

Friedhelm Müller, Consultant & Coach, Born 1957

I grew up on a farm between Hamburg and Bremen and now live in Freiburg.

Through my life, I have not only travelled the 682 km from northern to southern Germany but also experienced and learned a great deal. Stable phases alternated with turbulent changes.

I combine down-to-earth pragmatism with visionary thinking.  We develop forward-looking strategies together, and I support you in implementing them – always in line with what is really important to you.

Two main themes can be identified in my professional career: my fascination with technology, especially IT; and my interest in people’s personal development and collaboration in teams.

I studied social sciences at the University of Göttingen, graduating in 1982. After a short time working in social science research projects, I moved into the IT industry.

I worked in IT for 15 years as developer, technology consultant, and project manager at companies such as Software AG and T-Systems.

In my mid-forties, I pivoted to self-employment as a consultant, trainer and coach. This decision greatly enriched my life. Over the subsequent 20 years, I have helped many different people and teams to develop their potential and actively shape change.

My focus is on two central questions:  How can people flourish  based on their abilities and values? How can teams realise their performance potential?

My clients benefit from my diverse experience and my own ongoing professional development.

Coaching for individuals:

These “one-on-one conversations” focus on shaping one’s own roles, e.g. as a manager or project leader, as well as professional and personal reorientation through career coaching. I often accompany people through life changes, such as the transition from employee to manager or the transition to new phases of life, e.g. (un)retirement.

Coaching teams:

I have worked extensively in and with teams:

  • Accompanying a management team in the reorganisation of quality management | medical technology
  • Supporting a management team in optimising the “management of initiatives and projects” | medical technology
  • Fostering team development processes: medical technology | IT and telecommunications | food wholesale | automotive | public institutions.
  • Facilitation of management retreats and large group events: automotive | medical technology | university.
  • “Manager as Coach” – I train managers to become coaches for their  employees in a program based on own experience and extensive theoretical knowledge.

In addition, I give lectures and offer training courses, e.g.

  • Team development – who develops?
  • Conflicts as the spice of life
  • The art of personal development – do you really need to change your life?

Where appropriate, I collaborate with other experienced professionals from my network.

You cannot teach a person anything, you can only help them discover it within themselves.

Coaching as a “one-to-one conversation” can help if you find yourself in a difficult situation, struggling with stress, in a conflict, or even a crisis. Maybe you are looking for new inspiration in your role in organisations or other fields.

I support you in finding new ways of experiencing and behaving. Inspiring conversations are of great importance here. If appropriate, I integrate creative methods including constellations, movement, working with colours, “chair dialogues”, etc.

In our meetings we perceive, feel, think and laugh together. We untangle complex situations and try out new things.

Last but not least, you discover the immense strength, joy and vitality you have within you.

Often, these methods allow us to find solutions in places we don’t  expect!

Coaching for Teams

A team can be more or less than the sum of its parts. The challenge lies in forming a great team from great individuals.

I support you in identifying what’s holding your team back and in establishing fresh ways of collaborating.

I focus on key factors for success – goals, working methods, roles, rules, interaction patterns, atmosphere and cohesion.

I am creative in my approach and introduce you to new forms of communication and cooperation such as confrontational feedback, outdoor activities, cooking classes and more. Of course, only when these activities are suitable and beneficial for your team.

We will clarify and define the specific approach in our initial consultation.
